Last week I outlined to London Government leaders that four years on, it is increasingly obvious that Brexit isn’t working – we need to have an honest discussion about the best way forward.
This crisis can only be solved if we take a mature approach and are open to improving our trading arrangements with our European neighbours.
If you agree that we must forge a closer relationship with the EU, become a member of the European Movement today.
We have to focus on the future, and on solutions, because the hard-line version of Brexit we’ve ended up with is dragging our economy down and pushing up the cost of living. The latest research commissioned by City Hall shows that our economy has lost out on £140 billion because of Brexit.
Looking at the evidence, and the impact on London, it is my duty as Mayor to stand up for our capital and our country.
The average Londoner is nearly £3,400 worse off last year due to Brexit, and other parts of the UK are feeling the pain even more deeply due to lost opportunities, lost business and loss income. Brexit is simply not a peripheral concern that we can leave in the past.
We urgently need to build a closer relationship with the EU, and develop a new settlement to turbocharge our economy, help to raise living standards, and unlock the growth and prosperity we need.
Join the European Movement today to play an integral part in the campaign to renew our links with the EU.
Forecasts show that if we don't take action, the Brexit damage will spiral. By 2035 more than £300bn could be wiped off the value of the UK’s economy. Let's not sit back and watch that happen.
I hope you'll join me in calling for a better European future for our country.
