The Bill, which is currently going through Parliament, gives ministers the power to scrap or amend up to 4000 pieces of legislation which the UK helped to create as a member of the EU and to do this with minimal parliamentary scrutiny.
Yet these laws help give structure to our society, protect us in the workplace, the safety and quality of our food as well as nature and our environment.
The Bill is about to enter a third reading, and last week we learned that the Bill could be delayed by the Lords. This gives a vital window to put pressure on MPs to oppose the bill when it returns to Parliament – so will you take the next step and write to your MP today?
Just as support for Brexit is falling, so is support for this Bill. Our concerns are shared by many across the political divide.
The UK is already regretting the consequences of Brexit. We must not let this Bill go through and create even more damage by removing needed rights and protections for us all and enabling the government to achieve this by getting the power for this to be done with hardly any parliamentary scrutiny.
We are not alone in this fight. Organisations from across civil society agree with us. The RSPCA, the Wildlife Trust, Trade Unions and the British Chamber of Commerce are among over 90 groups that have raised serious concerns over the consequences of this Bill.
Pressure is already piling on MPs from the House of Lords and from some of the most trusted organisations in our country. You can help add to the public pressure by sending your MP a quick message today.
Speaking as a former Attorney General, I am extremely concerned about a bill that could see thousands of important laws torn up without full parliamentary process.
Whether you’re worried about animal welfare, food safety standards or workers' rights, let your MP know and together we can take this fight directly to the heart of this Brexit Government.
We have a network of MPs ready to hold the government accountable for the effect that Brexit is having on people all over the country. But the UK needs to see more MPs breaking the silence on Brexit – and they can – if informed supporters, just like you, tell their concerns about the Retained EU Law Bill and demand action:
Together we can help stop this foolish piece of legislation and defend our hard won rights, protections and quality of life.
With many thanks,
